It was a night of celebration for Port of Auckland after winning two awards at the Deloitte Top 200 Business Awards 2024 held in Auckland last week.
The company took out the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Award and Jan Dawson was named Chairperson of the Year.
In addition to these wins the port was also a finalist in the Company of the Year category and Roger Gray was a finalist for Chief Executive of the Year.
Port CEO Roger Gray said the award wins recognised the hard work and collaboration of the workforce, union and leadership teams.
“Whanaungatanga and celebrating our diversity has been at the heart of our transformational journey,” says Gray. “Our approach to inclusion has been the bedrock on which we have improved our teamwork, trust and overall performance. I am very proud of how the port workforce and unions have collectively combined talent, skill and experience to turn the place around and start delivering for Auckland again. Without this, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

Jan Dawson, who was named Chairperson of the Year, says she feels proud of what the port has achieved over the past three years.
“We have had a strategy of getting back to basics, improving safety for our workforce and to start delivering again for our customers and Auckland,” she says. “A lot of work has gone into making the port safer, more profitable and a great place to work,” she says. “It has been fantastic to see all of this brought to life and we look forward to this continuing.”

The Deloitte award wins cap off a stellar year for the port. In August, the port had a stronger than expected annual result paying a $40m dividend to Auckland Council – an increase of $10m on the year prior.
Last year the port won the Deloitte Top 200 Most Improved Performance Award and the HRNZ Future of Work award.
The Deloitte Top 200 Awards are held annually to recognise and celebrate outstanding individual and management team performances among New Zealand’s largest companies and trading organisations.
