Essential tools and information for an efficient journey through our port.
As a major New Zealand port, and vital link in the New Zealand supply chain, we work together with our customers to ensure cargo is moved in the most efficient way possible. We want our exports to get to market on time and our imports to deliver the things New Zealanders need and enjoy. Our Customer Service team will help you find the answers to your questions.
In this section you will find quick links to customer tools, our pricing schedule, forms and resources, and customer updates. Find below some additional information on our services.
Road, rail and pack/unpack
We provide our customers with a complete range of facilities dedicated to providing the most efficient and carbon-conscious supply chain.
Road exchange: The road exchanges serve Fergusson Container Terminal and Multi-Cargo customers, as well as on-wharf empty depots and vehicle imports. A Vehicle Booking System (VBS) in the Fergusson Container Terminal facilitates a fast, streamlined truck/ship transfer at world-class service levels.
Rail exchange: A vital link in the inland transport and logistics chain, our four parallel rail lines – each 500 metres long – can accommodate 128 wagons at one time for the loading and discharge of containers. Container exchange is facilitated by heavy lift machinery including straddle carriers and reach stackers. The rail exchange connects the Waitematā seaport with our freight hubs.
Pack/unpack: While we don't directly offer on-wharf pack/unpack services, we work with third-party operators on the port who can provide these services.
Shuttle
To facilitate the easy flow of cargo within the port area, we offer inter-wharf shuttle services to add value to the growing number of customers using the port as a trans-shipment hub.
To transfer containers quickly and seamlessly, we offer an inter-wharf cartage service using a fleet of vehicles able to carry a mix of 20-foot and 40-foot containers on multi-trailer combination tractor units of up to 110 tonnes' capacity. Our shuttle services can transfer full and empty containers, as well as breakbulk cargo.
What is a ‘Urgent’ and ‘Standard’ move?
If a container is on the port and available to be moved 24 hours prior to the departing vessel's arrival, and the move has been requested 36 hours prior to the departing vessel's arrival, then it is a 'standard' move and Port of Auckland will guarantee the move. However, if either of these conditions is not true then the container will be treated as an 'urgent' move. The move will be carried out on a ‘best endeavours’ basis and charged at the higher rate.
How do I order a shuttle move?
If the transhipment has been notified to the vessel planners prior to discharge from the in-bound vessel, there is no need to do anything further. For all other moves, fill in the Interwharf Transfer form. Make sure it is then sent to Customer Service within its normal operating hours. Click here to view the pricing for shuttles.
