Ports of Auckland won the Collaboration Award at the Safeguard New Zealand Workplace Health and Safety Awards.
This award recognises the collaboration between Ports of Auckland, Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ) and stevedoring companies C3 Limited and Wallace Investments to develop the Stevedoring Code of Practice for Ports of Auckland.
"We are honoured to receive this award," said Roger Gray Ports of Auckland CEO. "It is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of these organisations over the past year. The Code of Practice is another step forward as we become a safer port. It's wonderful to celebrate the progress we've made."
MUNZ Local 13 Assistant Secretary Grant Williams said collaboration like this wouldn't have been possible 18 months ago.
"Maritime Union members at Ports of Auckland are now working closely with POAL in decision-making processes around health and safety, says Grant.
"The open and collaborative approach by Ports of Auckland management team has been extended to other PCBUs and stakeholders who operate on the port. The result is a sense of inclusion and shared ownership in the Stevedoring Code of Practice which I think is important and something that all parties can be proud of achieving".
"This award acknowledges that everyone's contribution to safety has value, and we can get better results when we work together," says Grant.
Ports of Auckland General Manager Safety and Wellbeing Vanessa Matakatea also won Health and Safety Practitioner of the Year.
