Ports of Auckland is holding an open day to give Aucklanders a chance get up close and personal with theHauraki - the newest addition to their tug fleet.

“It was fantastic to welcome the Hauraki to the Port last week and I am pleased to be able to provide an opportunity for Aucklanders to get on board and welcome her too. Both cargo and cruise ships are getting bigger and the Hauraki will provide us with the ‘muscle power’ needed to bring them to berth quickly and safely, ” Ports of Auckland Chief Executive, Tony Gibson said.

Details for the open day are as follows:

When: 10:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday 30 August

Where: Princes Wharf, near Spirit of Adventure Trust

The Hauraki travelled over 5300 nautical miles to arrive in Auckland at dawn on 18 August. It has pulling power of nearly 70 tonnes and was built by Dutch shipbuilder Damen, at their facility in Changde, China.

Please note, as this is a working tug, there is no wheelchair access available.
