Auckland Heritage Festival begins on 27 September and Ports of Auckland is once again celebrating the event by offering boat tours on board the historic steam tug, William C Daldy.

The hour long tours of the Port and harbour will be held on Saturdays and Sundays during the festival - 27 and 28 September, 4, 5, 11 and 12 October at 10am, 12 noon, 2pm and 4pm.

The tours are popular, so bookings are essential - phone 0800 AK PORT (0800 25 7678) from 27 August 2014.

A gold coin donation to the William C Daldy Preservation Society can be paid on board the vessel on the day of the tour.

Tours depart from Hobson Wharf West (behind the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum).

Built in 1935, the William C Daldy was the port’s first tug and served Auckland by helping berth ships safely for over 40 years. She was also involved in helping salvage a piece of Harbour Bridge during its construction in 1958.

For land-lubbers, you can also follow the Red Fence Heritage Walk in your own time. Brochures can be downloaded from www.poal.co.nz or you can pick up a brochure from the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum, which is the start point of the walk.
