The Art Container, commissioned by Ports of Auckland and Maersk Line was today loaded on board theMaersk Bratan to begin its journey around the world.

The container, painted by Askew One and Trust Me is part of a campaign by Ports of Auckland and Maersk Line to help make shipping more visible. On one side of the container, Askew One has created one of his famous faces – this one called Gigi, and on the other TrustMe has reimagined his ‘Greetings from Aotearoa’ artwork, which can be seen in Ponsonby.

Earlier this week, the container headed out to Whitianga to be filled with New Zealand Greenshell mussels from mussel exporter, OP Columbia.

“The Art Container is a great opportunity to raise awareness of container shipping and we’re delighted to start the container off on its global journey with an export shipment of Coromandel’s finest Greenshell mussels,” said OP Columbia’s Andrew Selby.

The shipment leaves Auckland at 9pm tonight and heads to Philadelphia. From there the Art Container will be shipped to New York, where the mussels will be ready for US consumers to purchase in select super markets or enjoy in restaurants.

You can follow the progress of the container by entering the container number (MNBU3380910) in the ‘Track Shipment’ field of the Maersk New Zealand website - http://www.maerskline.com/en-nz/.

If you see the container, take a picture and share with Maersk Line or Ports of Auckland via social media using the hashtags #ArtBoxNZ, #MaerskLine and #PortsofAuckland
